Windmills in Altes Land
Our windmills are always worth a visit!
In case you have been to the Netherlands once before, this sight
will seem familiar to you, too. There are windmills in our Altes
Land as well. Two of them are still preserved today.
The windmill in Borstel, named Aurora, is a restaurant today. This well preserved smock mill with its surrounding gallery was built in 1859 and is under preservation order today. From Wednesday to Monday, from 12:00 am to 05:00 pm (closed in January), you can walk the gallery and enjoy the superb view.
The windmill named Venti Amica is located in Hollern-Twielenfleth. It is still in use; however no longer powered by wind. Here you get flour, cereals and the likes. The miller likes to tell stories of the windmill.
